LIEP

Right now, LIEP is going to be over.  Some of them are going to study in other states while some plan to go back to their own country.  Even though it is a short period of time that we study together, it is such a meaningful period of time.  I am so happy and delighted to know you all.

I have nothing to say in this blog not because I am lazy but I cannot narrate how I feel.  So, the last thing I wanna say is to thank you, my friends and my teacher, for giving me a wonderful moment in my life.

U.S. Life

First of all, I enjoy New Orleans/U.S. culture very much. It is such a relaxing and friendly culture. I receive strangers' greetings all the times, which is very different than my culture. And then, I'm glad I came to LIEP program. I learned some English and the American culture in a more formal way. It is easier, faster, and more efficiently. Also, I have lots of classmates to practice with at my spare time. I get many benefits. I definitely remember, before I was afraid of talking to strangers. I didn't know how to greet and farewell to people. But now, I enjoy talking to strangers. I'd like to have more and more chances to do so. I'm having a great time.

I love New Orleans

I like New Orleans. Since I came here I found many friendly people. I enjoy the culture and the celebrations in the city every month. Today we experienced a little tornado at Loyola University. I remember the experience last year with the hurricane Isaac. I was in New Orleans when I saw the news that a hurricane was approaching. My family was visiting at my home and I decided to take a little vacation with my family outside of New Orleans. When the hurricane passed, I decided to return with my family to home. It was my first experience of a hurricane. So, until now my family didn´t come back to visit me again. I think they feel fear to the hurricanes, but I think New Orleans is a beautiful city.

My time in the U.S

I think I cannot resume all the great things that I have learned and done since I arrived in the U.S.  However, I can say that I have met pretty awesome people, and I visited beautiful and interesting places such as the Mercedes-Benz Superdome, the Ogden Museum, and the New Orleans Arena. I would say that my favorite event in New Orleans was the Mardi Grass not only because of the parades but also because of the whole atmosphere of the city during that season.

On the other hand, I have learned much more than just English.  I learned about American culture and history, and other people’s perspectives of the world. I can honestly say that my time here has been rewarding in not only knowledge, but also in personal experience.

NOLA & LIEP

I span almost two years in this city. And it's the best two years ever I had in my life. I'm looking forward to see more adventure about my life in this city. I met the most awesome people here. I never had such an awesome friends before in my life as i had them here in New Orleans. I had so much fun, and so many parties. New Orleans became like a sickness for me. I got into it, now I never want to leave it. I ganged a high experience about this city and the life in America  Big huge for the best city in the US, New Orleans!

speaking about this semester, honestly it was a fun and great semester. I had such a nice teachers, funny teachers! I met new friends from different places. I learned some new things.

New Orleans

Studying at Loyola and be part of LIEP have been the best experience.  I improved my English skills, but also I met nice friends from different cultures. All the classes were enjoyable and I liked the way that teachers taught. I will never forget this beautiful experience!

In addition, my experience of living on campus was nice, I attended many activities of the university and also I made a lot of friends.

With positive attitude, I never had many difficulties. I hope come back soon to the beautiful place of USA: New Orleans.

                                                         New Orleans and LIEP
Last semester was the first time for me studying abroad. I started my Intensive English course at Loyola University. It was an interesting and enjoyable course. All my teachers were helpful. The only difficulty I faced was transportation. This semester is also very helpful since I'm in an advanced level class and we learn how to read novels and academic articles. We learn more about American culture and how to write essays and professional emails. The real problem this semester that it is really hard for me to  manage my time between attending class, doing assignments, and preparing for TOEFL.

 I dont take drugs

Hippy

The 1970s were a time of war and a time of social change. If I were 20 at that time, I could see myself not wanting war. I would not only fear for my family’s life I would feel that every country in the world could be better if they minded their own business. However, I could not be a hippie. I might enjoy hippie’s music. I would sing protest songs loudly with my little sisters or my friends. I might have friends that are hippies. They could visit me if their van came to my town. I might even hold a sign during a picket protest. However, I have a sense of duty and love stability. I would be a college student working towards a career. I would be looking forward to having a professional life. I would hope to become a man with some power to say “Hey, other people with power. We should stop making decisions that hurt the people that don’t have what we have.” Maybe those people would not listen to hippies. Hippies are young and sometimes homeless. Hippies are wild and sometimes do drugs. Maybe those people would never listen to a hippie, but they would have to listen to me. I think it would be good to believe in something good and liberal, but be relatable to the people that are against it.

Would I be a hippie if I had lived in 1970s'

The answer will be Yes. That's right. I probably would have been one of them. They are liberal, free-spirited, and open minded. So I love their freedom. Also they are anti-war. I don't like war, so I'm side with them.  And they are very cool. They have long hair. They drink and party a lot. I like their lifestyle--stress-free, be happy, and be free. Back to 1970s', those hippie were a group of people that headed than the rest. I like them. I would like to be a headed person, so I would had been a hippie if I had alive in the 1970s'.

I would choose not to be a hippie

I think it was very interesting to know more about the hippies and how was the 1960s, but I would choose not to be a hippie. People always will have differences with the rules and the government, but each system have some ways to protest. We have learned how some people during that time protested making songs or other stuff. I believe that each country should live in pace. Not everyone has to be hippie to have a better world.
If I had been alive in the 1970's, I probably would have been a Hippie . First, because was a fun and popular- fashionable movement during the 1970's. The young people came up with  a new culture: new style of clothes, colors, hair style, and new ideas like shiny clothes, free love , and of course, this cause controversy. However, If today you ask me what I think about Hippies: I don't like them because they have another culture such as not shower, not wears shoes, and they are nasty!

1970's Hippie

If I had lived in the 1970's, I would have been a hippie because just like them I am against war.
Because of everything that was happening during the 1970's, I understand why hippies were protesting and seeking to be free spirits. They were looking for an escape from all the tension around them. However, I would probably have looked for another way of escaping like through books or leaving the country. On the other hand, I  would have  identified with them because of their goals and style, but I could have never been vegetarian, do drugs or fight "the man". I would just have been singing hymns against war, wearing the peace symbol and tie-dying shirts.

I won't be a hippie

Hippies are the group of people who call for the peace and do something that they want to do without caring the culture or norm.  Calling for the peace is a very good idea that every single person should perform; however, if I were in that period of time, I would not be a hippie.
It does not mean that I will not fight for the peace.  I still fight for peace but not in the hippie way.  Instead, I will join another group or create the new group by my own.  My simple reasons for not being a hippie are that I do not want to be or even look dirty, and I also do not want to break the law or the culture with the only reason that I want to do this thing. It sounds like crazy for me to do with this reason, and if most people were hippies and did whatever they want, the society is much likely to be chaos.

                                                                     HIPPIE

I just learned what does hippie means, what their culture? what do they look like? I knew that they act against the government, they "hate the man", they don't care about their looks, they rarely tack a shower, they wore strange clothes, played strange music, evolved drugs in their culture!   If  I had been alive in 1970's, I don't think that I would be a part of them. I think peace is to follow the rules  not to act against it. I will care a lot for a clean and healthy culture, I'll be against anything contaminate my culture  in any way.

Hippie

In the 1960's, there is Vietnam  War.  Many troops were sent from United State to Vietnam.  Because of lack of troops, many young people were fought to practice how to do the war and sent to the battlefield.
People who disagreed with doing war consolidated and tried to show their power. Hippie is a big anti-war group that protested the war.  They set the Woodstock Concert in order that they could express their stand point through the music such as changing the lyric of the national anthem.  Besides, the war also stimulated people to realize about their rights, which made people group each other to request their deserved rights.

The Great Hippies

In the 1960s the hippies started and enjoyed music like what was performed at woodstock. Civil Rights activists also started doing things in that time. Not only that, but there was the war with Vietnam. Women's rights activists in that time were probably the most active they had been since 1920s when women fought to have the right to vote. I these things are all linked by the idea of protest. If a group of people is big enough and maybe strong enough, they can change the world around them. At least, they can change the laws that affect their lives. Many of the influential music artists from that time created protest music. The young people from the 1960s in America are known for being activists and counter-culture.

1960’s Movements

In my opinion, the 1960's was a time when people in the United States was protesting for having equality and the right to choose. The civil rights movement was seeking to eliminate segregation. The women also wanted equal rights because they did not want to be neglected anymore, and the anti-war movement was protesting for peace as well as the hippies. Despite all these groups had different motives to protest they were all responding to different social and political issues that were going on in the 1960's. I think, the most important link between all the movements and the hippies is that in some way they all promoted human rights.

The1960's was a decade of changes for Women related to the women rights like a freedom and sexual liberation. The role of the women in America Society change . Also, an important event was the anti-war movement and Hippie Culture. Of my point of view, Hippie Culture is really interesting see the fashion, hairstyles, the art, colors, and of course the influence on music and songs with the message of love, peace, and equality.

Around 1960's  Ladies started to changed their fashion trying to look like barbie. They spent a lot of money on their looks as well as hair styles. In 1966, the national organization for women works on women rights. The summer of 1967 was called "The summer of love" due to the large hippies during that time. In general in the 60's there was a lot of  movements in rights. Also people were anti-war trying to live their lives in peace and that effected even their musics and songs. The songs were protesting the war reflecting the sad voices of women and children crying and screaming.

Hippies in 1960´s

I learned something new today about American culture during 1960´s. I heard something about hippies and their lifestyle before, but now I know more about them. They started a big social movement during that time. They wanted a society free about sexuality, freedom and right for woman, and some rights from the government. They was also famous for the drug use  and psychedelic music.
