The Role of the Family in Society comments

While I was reading "The Role of the Family in Society", I had several impressions and contradictions about the importance of the family in America. Before I started reading, I already had an idea about the significance of individualism in the society, but the information in the article made me see this in a different way since I never thought that this ideal of equality and freedom would be so strong that would break a nuclear family. Based on what I understood, this happens because there is so much focus in developing each members potential that people are forgetting the importance of living a family life, and when I refer to “family life”,  I mean to the idea of spending many time with the rest of the members of your family talking and sharing.  I found this very contradictory since the article also says that American people is very fond of the idea of family. I think the concept of family is changing, and I don’t consider the ideal of equality and freedom is not satisfactory, but is just creating new kinds of families.
